I noticed OBK said today that 5star isn't going to do large containers of PBW anymore to retailers. Since most of you I assume don't buy in bulk it means PBW will go way up in price (Jakes was a bargain at $6.99/lb) since retailers buy big and split it up (likely why 5star is altering the plan since people rarely buy the huge buckets so the retailers are making huge markup on breaking up the larger pails). I also noted that Jeremy posted on the OBK post and said he makes his own. Thought it might be good to ask him on here what the recipe was and what products he was using to make it. So Jeremy...can you spill the beans? Anybody else have a recipe? Also, linked is a long ass discussion with some people giving and trying out some recipes based on the known makeup of PBW. www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=467655Looking forward to making my own at a lower $.

I buy the scent free dye free oxyclean at Walmart (green lid) and then I mix it with trisodium phosphate powder found in the painting section of your local hardware store. 70% oxyclean 30% trisodium phosphate powder. From what I read it's pretty close to pwb and from my experience it works just as good or better. Hope this helps. Cheers

I might have to try this when my PBW runs out.. I broke the bank to buy a 50lb bucket of PBW and would love to use an alternative that is just as effective.

At what concentration do you mix it?

I use PBW at 1oz (weight) per gallon. I'm not sure what Jeremy uses for his concoction.

I'm not very precise on how I use it, but I use about a quarter to half cup in 5 gallons
