Here it is. The promised thread for us all to submit and discuss possible education topics for upcoming meetings.
Why should I submit a topic?
Meetings will be MUCH more enjoyable if we are focusing on things people are either just curious about or are desperate to learn because their brews are suffering. Topics will be compiled and we'll vote a month in advance for which topic will be presented at the next months meeting.
What can be submitted?
Anything is fair game as long as it can be connected to brewing. Nothing is really too simple nor advanced as we want to help everyone in the club reach the levels that they want to be at.
Where should I submit my ideas?
Right here is a great place to start but also at meetings or even if you're unsure, speaking to a exec committee member.
Does submitting a topic mean I need to present it?
One word: NO! Topics and who will present will be decided later and being the person to submit does not mean you need to do it (really if its a topic you need help with it wouldn't make sense for you to present.) All that said there may be a topic you are willing to submit because its something you feel you've mastered and want to share what you know. That is also something and somebody we'd likely want to hear about so please submit those as well.
How will we decide which topic to learn about?
By having an ongoing list we hope to be able to vote on the education topic at each meeting that will occur at the following months meeting as well as establishing who will present.
How will we decide who presents a topic?
This is a team effort so hopefully we can count on all of you being team players and when a topic comes up that you are either an expert or willing to research to become one that you will volunteer. Like researching but presenting isn't your thing? Team up with someone who is and do it as a pair.Either way we hope everyone will participate at some point because we all have important knowledge to offer. These decisions will also be made at the meeting for the following months topic.
Topic Categories?
We have decided to break these ideas into categories so we spread out what we are learning about so we are constantly switching it up and therefore appealing to all levels. All this means is for example a certain month might be set as Brewing 101 for a look at beginners and topics associated with that. The next month might be Styles and the following Advance Brewing Techniques. By mixing it up it will keep it interesting too. The following are the categories I have set aside. They are broad with purpose so we can fit many topics under each umbrella category. If you have suggestions for more Categories you can submit them if you feel something is lacking. Otherwise here is where we'll start:
Brewing 101 (Beginner Techniques)
Advanced Brewing Techniques
Style Profile
Alternative Fermentations (beyond brewing)
The Elements (Water, Malt etc)
We need everyones help so please get thinking and submitting. Thanks!!!
