It's that time of year again! Delhaven Orchards will be pressing their cider near the beginning of September (date to be confirmed). The cider is a blend of different apples which is UV pasteurized but not stabilized with sorbates, meaning it will be stable for a short period of time but will likely begin to ferment on it's own if you don't pitch yeast within a few days. We've had lots of luck with these bulk buys in the past so let's keep it going!
The price is $1/L, meaning for 5 gallons (19L) it is $19. Last year it was more of a do-it-yourself type of affair, but if there is interest we can likely gather fermenters from everyone and drop them off as a club, and then organize pickup once they are filled. Essentially we drop off our clean and sanitized fermenters and ensure we label them with our name and phone number and when they are filled, Delhaven will call the number to let us know they're ready for pickup.
Last year and the year before we had quite a few interesting ciders to try.. including dry-hopped ciders, cider/beer hybrids and ciders fermented with alternative yeasts (wine yeast, brettanomyces etc). This year I'm wondering if we'll see a cider fermented with kveik yeast *COUGH*STEVE*COUGH*.
So if you're interested, post below and I will start a list. Be sure to mention whether you are available to drop off and pick up your own fermenter.
