This beer definitely has a lot going on. In the aroma I get espresso coffee, chocolate and to me a bit of funk. I'm not sure if that funk is just the cherries? In flavour the coffee really comes through as do the cherries, blending nicely with the dark malts. They add a nice tartness to the sweet malt. Bitterness is perfect to balance. A great fireside brew!

I had a weird 24hr bout of the flu so I missed yesterday's beer, but I'm back on track today!
The aroma was bright ripe maraschino cherries layered with vanilla and roast. The flavour had more coffee and dark chocolate but still loads of cherry. I think the sourness of the cherries played off the thick oatmeal body well but I wonder what it would be like with sweet cherries, or a blend. I think I got some funk at first too but I think maybe the cherries were overripe because the cherry flavour is super bright.. I could be wrong though. Quite tasty and the cherries take center stage!

So first off Santa style is my name for a version of the beer that wasn’t exactly the same as the cask beer. When I did that one I added lactose, vanilla an primed the cask with 1L of tart cherry juice so the version at cask days was notably sweeter, a bit more chocolaty form the lactose and vanilla and a bit more punch to the cherry. Unfortunately it was too little left to easily dose the same but I felt the original was great as it was anyway. Ok so seriously...I think maybe you guys might have a preconceived notion of funk with any beers in my care lol. I’m not catching any but this one definitely has more coffee but still has a nice sweetness that comes through in the finish and makes it more chocolate towards the end. The 10lbs of cherries came through nicely too. Anyway, happy there was some left so everyone could gat a taste. Still have a few bottles so if you’re a member and don’t get one let me know.!
