This beer is very tasty. You did a good job culturing that yeast because this beer has a great Saison character.. lemony and peppery with a little of those cinnamon/nutmeg spices but not too much. I get some cracker/wheat malt. The flavour had more of the gourd/vegetal character from the pumpkin but had the same nice Saison character. Carbonation was on point but since I was travelling I was using a not-beer-clean wine glass. Quite tasty and smooth for 7%abv. My girlfriend got a little vanilla in the aroma too. Thanks Christy!

Mmmm. Very nice Christy! I definitely get some vanilla and some definitely phenolic saison spice in the aroma. None of the vegetal that sometimes come with using actual pumpkin. The actual pumpkin comes out more in the flavour but is backed up really nicely by a that same phenolic that comes out as black pepper. I know the spices are there but I find them muted enough that their not discernible from the saison character which I much prefer. Great beer!

Thanks for feedback guys! That's interesting you both got vanilla - I hadn't noticed that in the aroma. I was worried when it had first finished fermenting because I thought I was getting more bubblegum than phenolic saison spice, but maybe it was just the way I was tasting the pumpkin in the mix. I do think it improved over the 6 weeks or so it was in the bottle carbonating. Had some trouble bottling more highly carbonated beer from a keg in the past, so I'm glad I went with bottle carbonation for this one.
Does anyone know what yeast GLB actually uses in their Saison DuPump?

Hi Christy.. my response to your beer is also delayed due to a family Christmas. As with Stephens, there was time for drinking but no online time. I also shared your beer. One of us noted vanilla which I didn't get. I did get the pumpkin and spices particularly the clove which I think I'm a bit sensitive to anyway, it's what i often get from belgian yeasts. Overall great refreshing beer. Thanks!
