Great beer Tony. Great candied citrus/grapefruit aroma with some sweetness. Flavour is similar but I think I do get a bit of spiciness from the rye. It has some solid caramel sweetness (not my favourite in an IPA) but the bitterness is high enough to cut through that and prevent the finish from being sweet. Carbonation was a little low but still decent. Thanks for sharing, very solid beer and a great opener for the advent!

Thanks Alex. Had problems during bottling which explains the low carbonation.
The style guide says there can be some malt sweetness but not a lot. I wanted a bit more rye in the flavour so I was going to up the rye percentage next time. Maybe I'll drop the Crystal a bit also.
I really like this beer so for me it's just tweaking the recipe slightly.

Yep, definitely get the grapefruit on aroma and flavour. I really like the balance of it. A nice bit of malt sweetness up front, then grapefruit/citrus and the hit of rye mid way through to the end along with some hop bitterness. Very nice beer, Tony! I'm going to savour this one right to the bottom of the glass!

I really enjoyed this beer! Wonderful aroma, very clear , and to me was perfectly balanced. I like IPA's that have a bit of caramel sweetness to balance the bitterness and this hit the mark for me. The rye malt provided just the right amount of spice. Nice job Tony! Obviously the cats did not help with this one!

Enjoyed mine with a side of tikka masala! Los of fruity and citrus notes in the aroma. Pretty firm bitterness that backs up that Carmel malt to keep it from getting too sweet. Carbonation was obviously low based on what you noted so I pretended it was more carbed. Like Alex, I’m not a super fan of crystal malt so if you do tweak it I’m excited to try it again as I’m not really super familiar with Rye IPA’s. Overall a job done well Mr.Tony and a tasty beer to start off with!

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Unlike most IPAs, some sweetness is part of the style.
And just to show you I'm not always negative about my beers, I really like this one, the second time I've made it, and I think I'm close to locking down the recipe.
