Just wondering if anyone has done a wet hopped beer? Looking to do my first this month with my hops. Any tips or tricks or suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers!

Wet Hop

I have not done one but will be doing one this year as well. Hops are dried to help preserve them so you should use the wet hops ASAP, for example I'm planning on brewing the same day I harvest. Dried hops are usually 8-10% water and fresh hops are 75-80% water so they say to use 6-8 times as much fresh hops by weight.
I've heard conflicting opinions on whether wet hops will absorb wort or not.. hopefully someone will let us know their experience!
When do you typically harvest your hops? For my Cascades I'm thinking around Sept 1 like I did last year.

I harvested my central around first week of Sept last year but I found they lost slot of aroma. So I'm think mid August this year on the top of the bine but lower on the bine I think end of August will be better

Wet Hop

I've read that wet hops can be successfully frozen, and that the care needed in packaging them depends on how long you're going to keep them. Longer storage really does need vacuum sealing in oxygen barrier bags, but up to a couple weeks seems to be fine with just sandwich bags (still squeezing out excess air). I'm going to try it this year because I really want to try wet hopping, but have staggered maturities and I don't think I'll get enough to use from a single harvest session (first year hops, so I'm happy to be getting anything!).

Sounds like we'll need to have a wet hop beer tasting session in October/November!
