Following our meeting last night I was going to summarize what we talked about.
If we can contact the organizers of Flights and Flasks 2016 we are hoping to set up a small booth with some promo items (flyers, posters, stickers if possible) to help promote homebrewing and beer knowledge and introduce our club as a venue to do just that. We would aim to be laid back, non-pretencious and educational.
As for the flyer, we were thinking of something like "Not your grandfather's homebrew" or "not your roommates homebrew" to try and dispel the misconception that all homebrew is gross and dirty.. we all know that it has the potential to be both gross and dirty but by following simple sanitation and easy steps it is very approachable to brew a beer that is both delicious and can even rival some commercial examples.
If we are able to get something ready for Flights and Flasks I think we should wait until our January meeting to invite all of the new people. This will give us time to organize a good first meeting and then we would be "unveiling" the club in the new year.
I've listed below the people responsible for certain tasks to make this happen
Stephen G - talk with the organizer of Flights and Flasks to see if this is even possible.
Brent H - get at least one version of the logo complete before you leave for vacation. Hand everything off to Stephen before you leave and he can take over from there
Keegan/Alex(me) - set up the Facebook page and populate with logo, pictures, promo stuff etc.
Alex - keep everyone on task and ensure we meet the deadline. I will be following up with people.
The only things left would be to create some flyers. I think we should all brainstorm some ideas.. but we want to keep it simple, informative and ensure it gets the message across that homebrew has every potential to be the best beer in the world.. "not your roommate's homebrew".
Once we have nailed down exactly what we're doing for Flights and Flasks we should also brainstorm what and where the January meeting should be.
As we complete the tasks let's update this thread so we are all informed.
Also remember that we do this for fun! We want it to be fun and we don't want to intimidate any potential new members with talk about pH, hop utilization, mash bed channeling etc. At the end of the day it's about brewing delicious beer that you can share with friends and family as well as creatively expressing yourself through brewing. Beer is much more than fizzy golden liquid and we need to share that with the public.
