Alex, I know you mentioned that you didn't know if we had enough people to get deals on grain and such. Just wondering if you have looked into that at all. I was considering joining the London Homebrrwers Guild simply for the discounts but I would rather support this group if I can.
Thanks, Jeremy

I haven't had a chance to look into this yet. I would say we might be able to work up a hop bulk buy, but if you're interested in grains I would say just join the LHG. We can count on them having bulk buys and I believe they're setting one up very soon!
I'm hoping once Sons Of Kent are set up and brewing that we could potentially get in on grain buys with them (assuming they're going to brew all-grain). I'd like to get in contact with Sons of Kent to look into this more.

I know it's a bit of a tour but brewery in Tecumseh may help us out on a grain buy. I met the owner and he seems cool! Pretty supportive of homebrrwers, even said he would like to try a sample of my beer sometime.

Sons of Kent will be an all grain, big batch brewery if all goes as planned.

Sounds like we have a few options. Maybe we should gauge some interest and see what volume of grain we would need as a club. Who would be interested in purchasing some malt? How much would you want (note that a bag is 25 kg or 55 lb)? Of what malt (2 row, marris otter, munich, pilsener etc)?

We buy in bulk at Jake's in Windsor and just take what we need or have room for.

I currently buy from jakes as well as that's one of the only options but it would be nice to get the 55lbs of 2 row for 30-35 dollars. I also buy Marris for $75 for 55lbs, I would like to get that price down as well.

As Chuck said, we only buy as needed for now. A group buy may be a bit more likely come better weather IMO.

What about contacting the malting company you used to deal with and see if they would sell to us in bulk if we bought a certain amount?

I can try talking to Gilbertson and page again but last time I talked they won't deal with anyone who isn't a business anymore it was good while it lasted

Yeah G&P will only deal with businesses. Recently they put a restriction on distribution to clubs as well, I believe the London Homebrewers Guild ran into some issues but since they buy through Forked River I believe they're safe.

Hey Jeremy,
Yeah I can definitley set you guys up with the bulk buy details. BSG just adjusted their pricing and Shelley just let me know that the price of 2row is wrong (it went up by 50%). So I would wait until that is sorted out, it is going to go up but hopefully not quite as high.
Cheers,
