Had a long drive today and forgot to put it in the cooler, so I have to cool it quickly!

Great aroma, nice long lasting head (leaving some nice lace on my glass ). Slight haze from dry hops likely. Flavour is great! Smooth bitterness, great hop flavour ( Centennial and Citra?? ). I'm really enjoying this and am wishing that I had another!

Now that my beersicle has thawed (oops), I'm getting a huge hit of grapefruit and for 70 IBU, I don't find it terribly bitter. Just love the big fresh hoppiness of it. Yum.

As per usual a great IPA from Keegan. Just a bit of maltyness to back up the hefty bittering charge but what I like is the citrus/grapefruit aroma and flavour. Great start to the countdown!

Has a powerful aroma of citrus, tropical fruit with some slight resiny/pine peeking through the edges. Flavour follows through with similar notes of citrus/tropical fruit and a solid bready/caramel malt background. Definitely bitter, although not as bitter as one might think with 70 IBUs as it is balanced well with the malt. Very good looking beer too, great lacing and burnished gold colour with slight haze.
Thanks for sharing Keegan, another excellent IPA!

Great IPA Keegan. Good medium body, found it to have a sharp crispness on the mouth that follows right to the finish. Carb is right where I would want it for this type of bitterness. As well as grapefruit I tasted a hint of pineapple but could be grouped with all the other tropicals in this. For Aroma I was expecting more of a punch but maybe that's more personal to my liking. Bitter is perfect for this one. Great Job Keeg!!

First thing is the nose: EXACTLY what I am personally looking for in an IPA....grapefruit but more the fruit as opposed to the rind. Clean finish. Like others, for 70 IBUs it is deceptive but repeated sips shows the bitterness on the finish. I've had many IPAs from microbreweries that weren't this good.

Thanks everyone. This was basically just a thrown together recipe I did to try and get a brew through on our new brewhouse. I used simcoe, citra, mosaic and Galaxy hops. I used 16% flaked oats in addition to the two row, crystal and some flaked wheat. Yeast was kind of a mix of a bunch of old pitches I had, a couple 001, a 002 and a pack of us-05 to ensure there was some viable yeast. Pretty happy with how this turned out. I think it's improved since the competition, as it was really young when it was entered and not quite up to carb. Definitely a beer I'd brew again, probably tweak a few things, and possibly up the dry hop. Any other questions, feel free to ask!

Great ipa. I love the aroma. Is there something special you do to get such good head retention?

Dan, I think the malted oats and flaked wheat in combination with the hops helped increase head retention. Mine lasted all the way through the glass.

Flaked wheat and oats, as well as the crystal malt all contribute. Nothing else special aside from that. I have been experimenting with using carafoam, although there was none in this recipe.
