Hello All!
We have officially confirmed a date of April 4th to brew! I'm sincerely hoping that all of you will be able to make it out for the brew day as it's sure to be fun and interesting on that big brew system.
Leading up to that day we have a few things to do (and dates to do them by):
1. Confirm your attendance at one or both events. Please follow THIS LINK to go to the Doodle that will allow yo to confirm your attendance at both the brew day on April 4th and the Award/Tasting Party with the other clubs on May 16th
2. Determine a beer style that fits well with using the featured Tom Hortons Birthday Cake Cereal. Please submit a suggested "style" along with a brief description on how you think the beers should taste. Lets do this over the next few days and be done by March 3rd. Once we close that stage I'll put it up for a vote Voting days will be March 4th - March 5th. Follow THIS LINK to go to the forum post where we will be discussing.
3. Determine the recipe for the beer. once we have voted on a style, I willzcreate a thread for recipe discussion and send out that link. I'd like to have recipe suggestions/discussion into the forum post between March 6th and the meeting on March 10th. At the meeting we will openly discuss and set the recipe. ALL INGREDIENTS WILL BE PROVIDED BY OBK and ONLY INGREDIENTS AVAILABLE AT OBK CAN BE USED. This includes grain, hops, yeast and any additional additives.
NOTE: since there is only pride at stake we will see how the development goes. While it would be great to have a trial run, if it doesn't work out than we will just have to roll with the punches. I doubt many groups will be doing a trial run so it isn't mandatory but would be nice.
4. Brew and test the beer (*optional). Provided all the above work well in that timeline I am offering to brew the beer on March 11th or 12th unless someone else can or wants to do the brew. We will also discuss this at the March meeting.
5. Taste the beer, determine tweaks and finalize recipe. Provided all goes well we should have a beer ready by the evening of March 26th and hold a tasting and quick meeting on recipe refinements (location TBD).
6. Send recipe to OBK March 27th (one week before brewing) so they can gather the ingredients.
7. Solidify attendance by March 31st and set up logistics for getting to and from OBK for brew day. I do not have a start time yet but it will surely be early so we can be done at a reasonable time. With the 1:45 - 2hr trade time that means an EARLY departure so please keep that in mind when committing to coming out.
That's it for now. Please feel free to ask needed questions with directly to me by responding to this email or better on the forum thread so everyone can know whats up.
Thanks,
Stephen
